Our Initiatives
Dream Coffee is currently piloting two programs that aim to give back.
The first is the Invisible Hands Women's Initiative. The idea behind it is that we donate a certain percentage of our proceedings to women within the coffee value chain to serve an important role, even if they are not coffee farmers themselves. Women often serve as the manual means through which we hand-sort our coffee for specialty grade pickings, making sure that only the best beans make the cut. It is hard work that often goes unrecognized. We piloted this program in Mbale, in 2023, with the intention of supporting a group of women who raise seed capital that they can lend it amongst themselves to build livelihoods, send children to school, and start businesses that can support their families during coffee off-seasons. The women are entirely in control of the funds. We hope to pilot this program next in Buikwe, Uganda.
The second initiative, our model farm in Buikwe Uganda, seeks to give classes to neighboring farmers in our Buikwe community. We believe that encouraging farmers to stick to farming practices that not only best respect the earth we toil, but that also practices that are good for our bodies. To that end, we have started conducting teaching sessions on our farm where we demonstrate those practices. With the help of our partner, Regenerate Africa, we aim to hold classes every quarter, where we teach these practices. It is not only a way to give back to the communities we source from, but a way to help them achieve higher quality coffee that can then command a higher price.
